Seattle's U-District is only three miles from the city downtown and ranges from the Ravenna to Portage Bay. This district gets its name because the University of Washington is located here. The 'AVE" and the village here offer kaleidoscope shopping, dining and entertaining options. This is one of the most wonderful places in the city with museums, public arts, used book stores and vintage clothing, not to mention the movie theaters in which famous blockbusters see their first release.

Seven Gables on 50th and Roosevelt is often described as "that house above the Italian restaurant" because of its gabled roof. This building was originally built as an American Foreign Legion dance hall and then changed into a theater in the 1970s. It boasts modern equipment and the films played here are a mix of independent films, foreign films and Hollywood favorites. For every three weeks, there will be a new film to witness its first release on the big screen of Seven Gables Theater.

Guild 45th in the Wallingford neighborhood is actually a shared name for two theaters which are separated by a cozy restaurant in between. The second auditorium features cozy and stadium-style seating and a wall-to-wall screen. It is often chosen as a favorite destination for movie buffs in the city. Both theaters have advanced projection equipment. One great feature of Guild 45th is that they often play a famous film over and over again for several weeks.

Grand Illusion is unique in that it often projects some old and classic movies. For many movie fans, the films on Grand Illusion's big screen are seldom to be found elsewhere. Besides, it is the longest operating independent theater in the city. And the coffee shop on the annex also helps create a real relaxing surrounding for its audiences.

Metro around the corner of the Seven Gables is a cinema that aims to meet every audience's taste in film. When it was first built in 1989, Metro is the first ten-screen cinema in the city of Seattle and features different versions of the same of film being on display at the same time - a major merit of being multiplex. The films showed here include independent pictures, foreign cinemas and Hollywood blockbusters.

U-District also houses a range of other theaters, like Naptune. This enables movie-goers to watch their favorite films and appreciate the first release of various big films without leaving the city.
